A Place for Traceurs in Washington State to Connect ...

The essence of parkour can be stated simply: it is the art of overcoming obstacles as swiftly and efficiently as possible using only your body. The fundamentals include running, jumping, and climbing and we build on these fundamentals to improve our ability to pass over, under, around and through obstacles with more complex movements. We are a community of traceurs (parkour practitioners) who connect online and in person to train, discuss and share knowledge about the world of parkour. We practice in the urban and natural environments and encourage creativity, safety, self-discipline, and respect for the community in the practice of parkour. We welcome anyone regardless of experience.

What is Movnat?

MOVNAT is an outdoor functional training method designed to develop, maintain or restore the full range of natural human movement capacities such as walking, running, jumping, climbing, moving on all fours, balancing, lifting, carrying, throwing, catching, swimming and defending.
Through practice, fundamental physical qualities such as speed, strength, endurance, coordination and flexibility are developed. Training also necessitates and promotes the growth of essential mental and moral qualities like self-control, courage, will, focus, alertness, and respectfulness, solidarity, cooperation, and reciprocal altruism. Last, just as MOVNAT promotes the return of the body’s natural physical capacities, it also encourages respect and concern for nature. We train to be able to move naturally, we train in nature, and we train to connect ourselves with the natural world and to care for it.

Please bring athletic clothes & shoes, a snack, and a bottle of water.

Rafe Kelley is a founding member of Washington’s Parkour community, the Vice Chair of the Pacific Northwest Parkour Association, and a respected member of the national and international Parkour community. In addition to his Parkour experience, Rafe has eight years of gymnastics experience and ten years of martial arts training.

There are 25 total spaces in both kid and adult clinics available, please register ahead of time.

Seattle's NWSource Article Features WAPK Members

Today's NWSource website brings a new article from Seattle's Anna Roth about our local Parkour scene. "The next time you're walking the dog and come across a group of people vaulting over walls, scaling fences and dropping from impossible heights, don't be alarmed," Anna writes, "they aren't in the middle of a police chase; they're just practicing Parkour."

Anna interviewed several members of WAPK and the PNWPA for her article targeted at newcomers to the concept and those looking for a place to get started, and quotes from Megumegu, Tyson, and Raindog appear in the article. You can read the entire article here.

April gym sessions & Parkour clinic

In Auburn there will be a gym session on Saturday 4/5 at the normal time and a clinic in Burlington on Saturday 4/19 from 3p to 8p.

The 2nd session in Auburn would normally be on 4/19, but in the interest of not double booking with the clinic in Burlington, we're trying to have it on 4/26. Waiting for the gym owner to get back to us. Look here or on the calendar for updates!

UPDATE: The 2nd session in Auburn is officially scheduled for Saturday 4/26 from 5p to 8p.

PNWPA leaders interviewed on Northwest Afternoon

Yesterday, our good friends at local Seattle TV station KOMO invited Tyson and Rafe (active WAPK members and leaders of our partner non-profit association, the PNWPA), to come on their afternoon talk show, Northwest Afternoon, to educate them about Parkour.

This clip features the studio interview and a live demo on the studio furniture. Nice work all around, especially by host Kent Phillips who attempted some vaults there at the end. Kent, we expect to see you at our regular jams now that the weather is turning nice.
